Our Story

Born in the mountains of Northwest Montana, Kootenai Bug & Feed began with a simple goal: Feed our flock something better.

Like many backyard chicken owners, we were surprised to learn how much insect protein was imported from overseas. We wanted a better option—something raised closer to home, with ingredients we could trust.

So we built what we couldn’t find.

Using regionally sourced grains, North American grubs, and our own backyard “chicken lab,” we developed high-protein treats designed to support healthy, productive flocks.

What started as a small project for our own birds has grown into a true family operation. Today, we raise mealworms, produce soil amendments, and craft premium poultry treats using responsibly sourced ingredients.
